Picea glauca 'Conica'
Dwarf Alberta spruce (Picea glauca 'Conica') is a shrub that reaches 1.3 m × 90 cm after ten years. Light: full sun, part shade. Hardy down to -40 °C. Drought tolerance: low. Sold in local shops from about €16.
A neat, dense cone of soft, light green needles: it grows only about 10 cm a year, reaches roughly 130 cm in ten years and gets to 3 or 4 metres only after decades. It suits an entrance, a rock garden, a specimen spot or a tub and needs no pruning. Plant it in a cooler, airy place sheltered from hot winds, in moist but well-drained soil, because it copes badly with heat and drying out; keep it away from hot walls and paving.
