Sedum sieboldii
October daphne (Sedum sieboldii) is a ground cover plant that reaches 20 cm × 45 cm after ten years. Light: full sun, part shade. Hardy down to -29 °C. Drought tolerance: high. Sold in local shops from about HUF 1,700.
A low succulent perennial: stems arch out from one point like spokes, carrying round, blue-grey, pink-edged leaves in threes, and pink starry flowers open at the stem tips in late September and October, when the foliage also flushes pink and orange. It looks good in pots, stone troughs, on top of a retaining wall and in the rock garden, where the shoots can hang down. Give it sun and lean, very free-draining soil and it needs hardly any watering; it dies back for winter and resprouts from the crown in spring.
