Coreopsis grandiflora
Large-flowered tickseed (Coreopsis grandiflora) is a perennial that reaches 60 cm × 45 cm after ten years. Light: full sun, part shade. Hardy down to -34 °C. Drought tolerance: high. Non-toxic to dogs and cats. Sold in local shops from about €4.
A bushy perennial that produces large, golden yellow daisy flowers from early summer into autumn and is good for cutting too. It is happiest in a sunny spot with lean, free-draining soil and takes heat and dry weather well, appreciating an occasional watering only in long droughts. Expect it to be short-lived: it wears out after two or three years, so divide it in time or let it self-seed. Deadheading keeps it flowering for months.
