Acer platanoides 'Globosum'
Globe Norway maple (Acer platanoides 'Globosum') is a small tree. Light: full sun, part shade. Hardy down to -34 °C. Drought tolerance: medium.
A Norway maple grafted on a tall stem whose dense, dark green crown stays a regular ball without pruning and widens into a flattened globe with age. It grows slowly, turns golden yellow in autumn and is happy in most soils, including limy ones. Bear in mind that over decades the crown can reach 5 to 6 metres across, and little will grow beneath it because of the deep shade and shallow roots.
