What it's good for, and what it isn't

This grey-green catmint brings lavender-blue flowers and plenty of pollinators to sunny borders, path edges and rose plantings. Once established it handles dry weather well, but its roots need freely draining soil throughout winter. Cut it back after the first flush of flowers to tidy the mound and encourage another display.

Watch out for

In Central Europe, winter waterlogging and poorly drained soil can kill the crown. Powdery mildew may occur in crowded plantings; shade or overly fertile soil can encourage elongated, sprawling stems.
