What it's good for, and what it isn't

A low, dense, dome-shaped perennial with narrow sword-like leaves, covered for weeks in summer with golden yellow daisies. It suits sunny, dry, even limy or stony spots such as border edges, rock gardens and gravel beds, where it is long-lived and needs next to no care. Short runners slowly build a dense patch without becoming a nuisance; shear it back if the clump splays open in late summer.

Watch out for
Generally pest-free; powdery mildew can appear when the soil gets very dry, and flowering is weaker in shade.
