Inula ensifolia
Sword-leaved inula (Inula ensifolia) is a perennial that reaches 30 cm × 45 cm after ten years. Light: full sun. Hardy down to -29 °C. Drought tolerance: high. Sold in local shops from about €3.90.
A low, dense, dome-shaped perennial with narrow sword-like leaves, covered for weeks in summer with golden yellow daisies. It suits sunny, dry, even limy or stony spots such as border edges, rock gardens and gravel beds, where it is long-lived and needs next to no care. Short runners slowly build a dense patch without becoming a nuisance; shear it back if the clump splays open in late summer.
