Veronica spicata
Spiked speedwell (Veronica spicata) is a perennial that reaches 50 cm × 40 cm after ten years. Light: full sun. Hardy down to -40 °C. Drought tolerance: medium. Sold in local shops from about €4.50.
A slender perennial with upright spikes of blue flowers (pink or white in some cultivars) that draw bees and butterflies for weeks in summer. Give it full sun and well-drained soil, because it will not stand wet ground in winter. Cutting off the faded spikes often brings a second flush.
