Campanula persicifolia
Peach-leaved bellflower (Campanula persicifolia) is a perennial that reaches 90 cm × 45 cm after ten years. Light: full sun, part shade. Hardy down to -40 °C. Drought tolerance: low. Non-toxic to children. Sold in local shops from about €4.10.
Peach-leaved bellflower sends up slender, upright stems from a rosette of narrow leaves in early summer, carrying large blue or white bells. It suits cottage-style and naturalistic borders, works well under roses and shrubs, makes a good cut flower and is visited by bees. Give it moist but well-drained soil and some afternoon shade in hot spots, and cut off the faded stems if you do not want seedlings.
