Aesculus hippocastanum
Horse chestnut (Aesculus hippocastanum) is a large tree. Light: full sun, part shade. Hardy down to -34 °C. Drought tolerance: low. Toxic to dogs, cats and children. Sold in local shops from about HUF 38,000.
A huge park tree with deep shade and upright white flower candles in May that bees readily visit. It suits only a really large garden with moist, deep soil: it copes badly with drought and with heat between paved surfaces, and its foliage usually turns brown by midsummer. In autumn it drops plenty of spiny husks and conkers, and the seeds are poisonous, so do not confuse them with edible sweet chestnuts.
