Geranium sanguineum
Bloody cranesbill (Geranium sanguineum) is a perennial that reaches 30 cm × 60 cm after ten years. Light: full sun, part shade. Hardy down to -40 °C. Drought tolerance: high. Sold in local shops from about HUF 1,400.
A tough ground-covering perennial that forms a low mound of finely cut leaves, dotted with magenta-pink flowers from late spring into summer, and turns red in autumn. It grows in sun or part shade, copes with limy soil and handles dry spells well once established. It spreads slowly by rhizomes and seed and can eventually crowd out weaker neighbours.
