What it's good for, and what it isn't

A tiny tuberous anemone that weaves a carpet of blue, white or pink daisy-like flowers under deciduous trees and shrubs in early spring. Plant the tubers in autumn after soaking them overnight. The foliage dies back completely by early summer, so put it where later perennials cover the gap and where the soil does not stay wet in summer.

Watch out for
The tubers rot easily in heavy, waterlogged soil. Tubers that were stored too dry and planted without soaking often fail to sprout.
