Lysimachia ciliata
Fringed loosestrife (Lysimachia ciliata) is a perennial. Light: full sun, part shade. Hardy down to -40 °C. Drought tolerance: low. Sold in local shops from about €7.90.
In gardens it is nearly always the purple-leaved form that is grown: small lemon-yellow star flowers open above the dark foliage in summer, which looks striking by a pond or in a damp bed. It wants soil that never dries out and suffers in summer drought without watering. It spreads strongly by rhizomes, so give it a patch of its own or plant it behind a root barrier or in a sunken bottomless pot, and dig out stray shoots in spring.
