What it's good for, and what it isn't

Tutsan is a low, dense, semi-evergreen shrub that carries golden yellow flowers from early summer into autumn while already ripening its showy, fleshy berries: depending on the cultivar these are cream, salmon pink, red or almost black (as in the Magical series), and they are excellent for cutting. It does best in sun or part shade in moist but well-drained soil; it puts up with deep shade but flowers less there, and it will not stand waterlogging. Cut it back in spring without worry, since it flowers on new shoots and stays compact that way.

Watch out for
Rust is the main problem: orange pustules on the undersides of the leaves, yellowish-red blotches above and early leaf drop. Older cultivars are susceptible, newer ones (such as the Magical series) are more resistant; cut back infected shoots and clear away fallen leaves. In Central Europe the top growth can be killed back in hard winters without snow cover, though the plant usually reshoots from the base; a thick mulch over the roots for winter is worthwhile. Powdery mildew may also occur.
