Sedum telephium
Orpine (Sedum telephium) is a perennial that reaches 60 cm × 60 cm after ten years. Light: full sun. Hardy down to -40 °C. Drought tolerance: high. Sold in local shops from about €6.20.
A fleshy-leaved, upright succulent perennial with flat heads of pink, purple or reddish flowers from late summer into autumn, when it is covered in bees and butterflies. Plant it in full sun and lean, well-drained soil, where it more or less looks after itself and shrugs off drought. Leave the dried flower heads standing for winter, they look good, and cut back only in spring.
