Geranium × hybridum
Hardy geranium hybrids (Geranium × hybridum) is a perennial. Light: full sun, part shade. Hardy down to -29 °C. Drought tolerance: medium. Sold in local shops from about €4.30.
This record covers the garden cranesbills sold by cultivar name: loose mounds of cut leaves with saucer-shaped blue, purple, pink or white flowers, for sun or part shade. Cultivars vary a lot, from 30 cm spreading ground covers to border plants close to a metre tall, some with purple or golden foliage and with different lengths of bloom, so check the final height and flowering time on the label. After the first flush the clump often flops open: cut the spent stems back to the base and it returns with fresh leaves in two to three weeks, and many cultivars flower again.
