What it's good for, and what it isn't

A long-lived perennial that builds a dense, bushy clump: pale blue starry flowers in late spring, then narrow leaves that turn golden yellow in autumn. It grows with very little care in sun or part shade in ordinary garden soil and copes with short dry spells once established. It is slow to get going and needs two or three years to show what it can do, so leave it undisturbed.

Watch out for
No serious pests or diseases; rust shows up now and then. In too much shade or very rich soil the stems stretch and flop, in which case cut them back by a third after flowering.
