What it's good for, and what it isn't

A Mediterranean lavender you recognise by the purple "rabbit ear" bracts on top of its stubby dark flower heads; it blooms from mid-spring into summer and is busy with bees and butterflies. It is much more frost tender than other lavenders, so grow it in a pot or tub on a sunny terrace in loose, free-draining compost and move it to a frost-free, bright place for winter. Trim it after flowering but never cut into old wood, which does not resprout.

We do not recommend this plant
We do not recommend it for most Central European gardens. Further down we show what to plant instead.
Watch out for
It is not reliably winter hardy in Central Europe: sources put its limit at roughly -5 to -12 °C, so plants left in the ground are killed in most winters. Grow it in a container and overwinter it frost-free and bright. Overwatering and waterlogged soil cause root rot, and it is short-lived in any case.
