What it's good for, and what it isn't

'Evereste' is a small flowering tree with abundant spring blossom and colourful little apples that often remain on the branches into winter. Give it a sunny position with good drainage, and water it while establishing and during prolonged drought. Allow room for the widening crown, and check the rootstock because it influences the eventual size.

Watch out for

Usually a healthy cultivar with good resistance to scab and powdery mildew, but not completely disease-free. Aphids, codling moth and fire blight can affect it in Central Europe; sudden browning and death of flowers or shoots warrant investigation. Avoid waterlogged soil, and provide water during prolonged summer drought.
