Jasminum nudiflorum
Winter jasmine (Jasminum nudiflorum) is a climber. Light: full sun, part shade. Hardy down to -23 °C. Drought tolerance: medium. Non-toxic to dogs and cats. Sold in local shops from about €7.60.
With yellow flowers on bare stems in late winter and shoots that stay green all winter, it brings colour when little else does. It is not a true climber: the long arching stems only lean on a support, so you have to tie them to a trellis or wires, and without one it grows as a sprawling, cascading shrub that also suits retaining walls and banks. The flowers have no scent, and it should be pruned right after flowering because it blooms on the previous year's shoots.
