Brunnera macrophylla
Siberian bugloss (Brunnera macrophylla) is a perennial that reaches 45 cm × 60 cm after ten years. Light: part shade, shade. Hardy down to -40 °C. Drought tolerance: low. Sold in local shops from about €6.
A shade-loving perennial with large, rough, heart-shaped leaves that carries a haze of tiny sky-blue, forget-me-not-like flowers above the foliage in spring. Plant it under trees and shrubs or in a partly or fully shaded bed, in humus-rich soil that does not dry out in summer, where it slowly knits into a dense ground-covering patch. The silver and variegated forms light up shade especially well but need more care and steadier moisture.
